WBD boss shares big update about 'Harry Potter' series

The Harry Potter TV series is in the works, and Warner Bros' top head teased that the show may have ten seasons.

In a chat with Deadline, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, said the new series will span a decade, hinting at a 10-season run for the much-awaited show.

“As you look at ’26 and into ’27, you begin a 10-year journey on the Harry Potter series, which we’re super excited about,” he said. “And I’d argue, may be the biggest event by the time we get to that series.”

In other news, HBO announced the network will back J.K. Rowling as a creative supervisor of the series as it will be released in 2026.

The spokesperson told Variety that its parent company has “been working with J.K. Rowling and in the Harry Potter business for over 20 years” and that “her contribution has been invaluable.”

“We are proud to once again tell the story of Harry Potter — the heartwarming books that speak to power of friendship, resolve and acceptance,” the statement reads.

“J.K. Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement," the text concluded after concerns were raised over Rowling's involvement after her views over transgender.
