Shailene Woodley just named the motivating force behind her upcoming Janis Joplin biopic.
Giving credits to the iconic songwriter, Linda Perry, on her latest appearance during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Divergent star confirmed she will be singing in the biopic.
With the 4 Non Blondes singer as the highly anticipated film’s music producer, Woodley discussed what its like working with Perry.
"(Perry) is a legend. She's incredible," the Big Little Lies actress stated, adding, "She really pushed me to figure out how to find my own voice. Because I was like, 'I can't sing like Janis.'”
She continued, “And she put me in a lot of uncomfortable situations where she's like, 'Show up here on this date,' a massive empty warehouse with a full band. She's like, 'Have fun. Sing some songs.' I was like, 'I don't know how to sing anything. Like, Christmas carols? What do I sing?'"
That’s when the confirmation came along of Woodley lending her vocals to the movie, with Fallon asking if she would actually be singing or lip syncing.
"We're going to sing everything. I'm going to sing,” Woodley responded.
For the unversed, Shailene Woodley announced in September that she would be starring as well as producing the upcoming untitled biopic, revolving around the story of Janis Joplin and her death from heroin overdose at the age of 27.
