MULTAN: Jamshed Dasti, former Pakistan People's Party MNA who quit the party and announced contesting election against ex-foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, has been released from Multan central jail, Geo News reported.
A large number of his supporters showered rose petals on him as he walked out of the prison and joined the crowd waiting outside to accord him a warm welcome.
The Lahore High Court Multan bench had on Wednesday declared former MNA Jamshed Dasti’s conviction in the fake degree case null and void and ordered his release.
A local court had sentenced Dasti to three years in prison with Rs 5000 fine for contesting the 2008 elections with a fake degree.
Dasti was also disqualified from contesting the upcoming general elections and was arrested from the courtroom following the hearing.
