Chappell Roan recently won the award for Top New Artist at 2024 Billboard Music Awards.
The 25-year-old singer was not present at the 31st Billboard Music Award, which was held on Thursday night, December 12, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, in her pre-taped acceptance speech, posted on official Instagram account of BBMAs, the Pink Pony Club hitmaker said, “This has taken a long time — to be a new artist, but it's awesome to be recognized.”
The first-time nominee, while expressing her gratitude for the win, continued, “And all these years of hard work, are truly paying off.”
The Good Luck, Babe concluded her speech thanking everyone “for being a part of that”.
Her major win comes after Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, revealed the valuable piece of advice Elton John gave her.
“The advice he gave me was that the songs will come," the HOT TO GO! crooner said.
She went on to say, "He thought that he wouldn’t have the ideas, but they were absolutely there. He just had to let them come to him. So that’s a good reminder.”
For the unversed, John was crowned with TIME's Icon of the Year on Wednesday, December 11.
