Taylor Swift made history at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards on Thursday, December 12, despite not attending the event in person.

The 34-year-old pop star accepted 10 awards via a prerecorded video, bringing her career total to 49 and cementing her position as the Billboard Music Awards’ all-time top winner.

During her acceptance speech, Swift expressed gratitude to her fans and the Billboard team, “I just want to say hi and thank you to the Billboard Awards and the fans because Billboard is counting your stuff — what you listen to, the albums you’re passionate about. So, I count these as fan awards because you care about our albums and come see us in concert.”

According to US Weekly, reflecting on her groundbreaking Eras Tour and the success of her work, Swift added, “Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and the Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you. It means the world to me that you’ve embraced the things I’ve made and care so much.”

Ahead of her 35th birthday on December 13, Swift called the milestone awards a “perfect early birthday present.”

Moreover, this year, Swift was nominated in 17 categories, making her the most-nominated woman and second-most-nominated artist after Zach Bryan, who received 21 nods.

Meanwhile, her nominations included Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and Top Collaboration for Fortnight featuring Post Malone.

Additionally, Swift’s wins placed her ahead of Drake, who previously tied with her 39 awards, who was nominated in eight categories this year.

Furthermore, Swift’s virtual appearance at the awards came shortly after she concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour in Vancouver on December 8.

It is worth mentioning that the tour spanned five continents, grossing over $2 billion across 149 shows attended by 10.1 million fans.
