James Gunn recently updated fans with exciting news about DC’s Clayface, a movie that is in development.
The news was confirmed by the filmmaker himself on X (formally known as Twitter) as he wrote, “Exciting news out of @DCOfficial Studios today as #Clayface, a DCU story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been OFFICIALLY greenlit.”
Following the reports that Clayface is moving forward, The Hollywood Reporter noted that “the idea is to make [Clayface] a horror movie in the $40 million range” adding “in another effort to show the diversity of the DC Studios slate.”
The movie, according to the The Suicide Squad director, will be released on September 11, 2026.
It’s also been rumored the forthcoming movie is a part of the Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson Batman universe, as Reeves is also producing. Gunn recently confirmed it’s set in the DCU.
Gunn’s announcement of a new movie comes after a month after he reflected on his vision for the upcoming film, Superman, in comparison to Zack Synder's version.
In his version of Man of Steel, DC’s co-boss drew inspiration from comic books and shared he wanted to make the superhero “family-oriented”.
Superman will be out on July 11 next year.
