Aaron Rodgers exposes painful truth behind his family’s beliefs and his path to healing

Aaron Rodgers, the NFL superstar and Green Bay Packers’ player, has revealed how he turned to spirituality, plant-based medicine, and meditation to "reparent" himself as an adult.

The three-part Netflix documentary titled Aaron Rodgers: Enigma chronicles the life, career, and controversies of the 41-year-old NFL quarterback.

In the documentary, Rodgers opened up about his past and shared that he “learnt how to love myself better” after not getting the love from his family while growing up.

Reminiscing over the past, he said, “At times when you have some dysfunction or some separation in your family life, you have to kind of reparent yourself and give yourself what you didn’t get or wanted to hear more of when you were a kid, and I think for me, I just wanted to hear, ‘I’m proud of you.’”

“I had to find a way to be my own parent in those moments and say, ‘Hey, f--- being perfect. I’m proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished on and off the field.’ And forgiveness for all the mistakes, because I was just trying to do the best I could and a lot of times it wasn’t good enough,” the four-time NFL MVP added.

Moving forward, he stated that his difficult relationship with his parents, Ed and Darla, started when he was in high school, as he began to feel distant from them because of their strong Christian beliefs.

Taking into account his efforts to “reparent” himself as an adult, Rodgers explained, “I felt like the love that I was modeled growing up; it’s kind of a merit-based spirituality.”

“If you don’t believe you deserve that love, it’s hard for you to give it, and it’s sure as hell hard for you to receive it. Plant medicine has been a big teacher for me for self-love,” he concluded by saying.

It is pertinent to mention that all parts of the Netflix documentary Aaron Rodgers: Enigma are available to stream, as the streaming giant dropped it today, on December 27, 2024.
