Hours after it was reported that Prince William and Kate Middleton will not be attending King Charles' pre-Christmas lunch, the monarch was photographed arriving at Buckingham Palace.

The king's younger brother, Prince Andrew, had already pulled out of the lunch after days of media scrutiny over his alleged links with a Chinese spy.

According to GB News, King Charles arrived alongside his private secretary Sir Clive Alderton.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton and Prince William are in Norfolk to spend time with their three kids during the holidays.

Andrew's former wife Sarah Ferguson will also not be present at Buckingham Palace today, local media reported.

The Duke of York is said to have already withdrawn from joining senior royals at Sandringham for the festive period.

Andrew and William's absence meant that the British monarch will be hosting the event in the absence of his brother, his two sons, and his grandchildren.

It comes as the king continues to undergo treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.
