ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned the hearing of the treason case against former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf till April 17 seeking a reply from the federation.
In its interim order the apex court stated that it appeared that the federal government had not taken any action despite a Senate resolution and court order.
During proceedings Attorney General Irfan Qadir appeared before the two member bench hearing the case and said he had objections regarding the proceedings not the petition. Qadir added that he would submit his objections in writing.
Justice Khilji Arif remarked that the court should be informed of the federation’s stance regarding Musharraf’s November 3 actions. He asked if Musharraf’s actions violated Article 6 of the constitution. Justice Arif further remarked that if Article 6 was applicable, proceedings would move forward according to this.
Earlier during proceedings, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that it has been four years since July 31, 2009 order was issued and the court wanted to know what did the federation do in that regard.
He continued saying that the court will issue notice to the federation and not to the attorney general. The federation can ask anyone to appear.
The lawyer of the petitioner A.K. Dogar has requested to replace the advocate on-record. While presenting his arguments, Dogar said that the advocate on-record has asked to withdraw the petition without the directives of the petitioner.
