Billy Bob Thornton, a renowned actor, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker, recently got candid and opened up about why he turned down movies like Spider-Man (2002) and Mission Impossible III (2006).
He recently appeared on the Bingeworthy podcast and shed light on his decision to turn down “the bad guy” roles in both movies, saying he prefers to be “looser and less predictable” in his work.
“I don’t have much interest in those kinds of roles. With the Green Goblin, I didn’t feel like getting up at 4 am for five or six hours of makeup. And with Mission: Impossible III, I didn’t want to be the guy trying to kill Tom Cruise. If you’re the bad guy in a big movie like that, audiences remember it forever. I prefer to keep things looser and less predictable,” the star of Landman revealed.
For the unversed, after Thronton declined to perform in both movies, Willem Dafoe portrayed Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin) in Spider-Man, while Philip Seymour played the role of arms dealer Owen Davian in Mission Impossible III.
Notably, the 69-year-old later played the villainous hitman Lorne Malvo in Fargo season 1 and earned a Golden Globe for his performance.
It is pertinent to mention that Billy Bon Thronton has secured a seventh Golden Globe nomination for his character in Landman as the titular executive of the oil rig crisis.
