'Virgin River' showrunner addresses biggest theory about cliffhanger ending

Virgin River has ended yet another season with a cliffhanger, and fans have come up with a murder theory to answer what Jack sees behind the door in the finale of season 6.

At Jack (Martin Henderson) and Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) wedding, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) doesn’t show up to do the bride’s hair and makeup, followed by Jack’s shocking reaction when he goes to her house to check on her. Inside the house, he ultimately gets to a bedroom and viewers see a look of shock and horror on his face.

Fans have come up with a murder theory involving Lark's (Elise Gatien) exit, and Charmaine and Calvin's custody battle over the twins. However, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has debunked that theory.

When asked about the theory, he replied: "Good question, but no."

Hinting at what has likely happened, he said: “It would seem that Charmaine has found herself in the middle of a mess, which is true to her character, and that it will pull various members of our ensemble into this story and into this mess."

He also praised Martin for his acting in the scene as the actor wasn’t told what he was reacting to.

"We didn't tell him what was in there, so it's a testament to his incredible talent that he was able to create many possible scenarios of what he was seeing on the other side of that door," Smith revealed.

"We had several takes, so perhaps the director was just like, 'You found a dead body, you found a Peloton.' I don't know. But he nailed what we were going for in that in terms of wanting to draw the audience in," he added.

He also promised that Virgin River season 7 will begin exactly where season 6 ended, so the answer to the cliffhanger will be revealed quickly.
