Lee Cronin, famous for helming Evil Dead Rise, is set to take to reboot another key monster: The Mummy.
He will write and direct the film for New Line, which is announced to be released on April 17, 2026.
As usual, a strict silence on the plot details, THR reported. But in the wake of the disastrous Tom Cruise-led take on The Mummy, Lee said, "This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before."
"I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening," he added.
The movie's financiers are Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and Lee's banner, Doppelgängers.
Other than them, James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville are the producers.
Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher will be the executive producers.
Brendan Fraser, who was previously the lead star of The Mummy franchise, said to play Rick O'Connell, he had to go into a certain mode to connect with the character.
"Rick O’Connell was a character born of [writer-director] Stephen Sommers, having watched all of the swashbuckling films of the ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s. Rick is someone who has a great deal of irascible energy," he told the Los Angeles Times.
"He’s not taking anything too seriously. But if you’re playing Rick and you don’t believe in the circumstances of the reality of that movie, then your audience won’t either," the actor concluded.
