Prince Andrew's former wife Sarah Ferguson is said to be the one who convinced him to pull out of King Charles' pre-Christmas lunch days after the Duke of York was linked to an alleged Chinese spy.

The mother of Andrew's  two daughters also did not attend the event hosted by the monarch.

The Duchess of York has made first statement since their decision to skip the lunch.

Taking to Instagram, she said, "It was a pleasure to record an audiobook of my new children’s title ‘Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods’ for @LBC.

"Hoping it brings you and your family lots of Christmas cheer. Listen at the link below."

"Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods" was originally published on October 10, and is the first book in the new Flora and Fern series.
