Alec Baldwin is now safe from prosecution over the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Halyna was accidentally fatally shot on the set of Rust in October 2021. Her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baldwin in February 2022. Howevere, they settled with the father-of-seven in October.

During the same shooting which was the result of real bullets in a prop gun, director Joel Souza was also injured. He didn't press charges.

Now, Special prosecutor Kari T. Morrissey has announced that an appeal to reinstate charges against the Emmy winner has been dropped.

Baldwin previously won the case when his attorneys proved that prosecution had withheld evidence in the case.

His attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro responded to the new statement from the prosecutor, saying, “to dismiss the appeal is the final vindication of what Alec Baldwin and his attorneys have said from the beginning — this was an unspeakable tragedy but Alec Baldwin committed no crime. The rule of law remains intact in New Mexico.”

In “The state’s efforts to continue to litigate the case in a fair and comprehensive manner have been met with multiple barriers that have compromised its ability to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” Morrissey’s statement read, per New York Times.

Alec Baldwin has yet to comment publicly on the news.
