Cher is taking a trip down memory lane in her bestselling memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One.

The singer and actress, 78, has spoken at length about her state of mind when she was marrying late fellow singer Gregg Allman following her pregnancy.

Cher was already dating Allman by the time her divorce from Sonny Bravo was finalised in 1975.

"It had taken so long and had been so convoluted that I felt relief when it was over," she recounted in her book. However, Cher also admitted to some reservations she had in the process.

"I didn’t know whether my relationship with Gregory would last or not. I was living each day as it came," she wrote of the Allman Brothers Band singer.

"Then I found out I was pregnant, and we decided to get married," Cher said.

Cher recalled her sister Gee and friend Paulette looking at her with shock "as if I’d gone into an alternate universe" when she made the announcement. "Come on, let’s just do this," she told them as they prepared to go to Las Vegas.

"I just kept putting one foot in front of the other," she wrote. "The future is never written in stone. I did what I thought was the right thing to do."

The wedding ceremony was kept short and the small bridal party headed back to California after the nuptials.

"There was nothing romantic about our wedding day," the Oscar winner said of the 1975 wedding, which took place days after her divorce from Bono.

Cher filed for divorce nine days later but then reconciled and the couple welcomed their son, Elijah Blue Allman, in 1976. Cher and Allman remained married until 1979.

Allman died at age 69 following complications from liver cancer in 2017, per The Hollywood Reporter.
