Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii, known for his electronic music, was found dead seven years ago in Muscat, Oman.

In a statement, his family implied that the Swedish musician and DJ had died by suicide.

Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, was 28 when he died.

A statement released by his publicist at the time Diana Baron said, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat."

No cause of death was given and his publicist said no further statements would be released.

According to PEOPLE in a Spanish language statement, his familycalled Avicii a “fragile artistic soul” and an “overachieving perfectionist” who suffered from “extreme stress.”

It said “When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most — music.”

The statement added, "He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.”

According to the news outlet local authorities were able to rule out foul play.

Years after his death, the musician is once again in the news as a new pair of documentaries from Netflix are set to  provide fans a never-before-seen glimpse into the life and death of Avicii — as well as the last show the superstar DJ ever performed, at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa in August 2016. Titled Avicii: I’m Tim and Avicii: My Last Show, the two documentaries began streaming globally on Dec. 31.
