Madonna's tumultuous marriage to ex-husband Sean Penn may have been one where she was "genuinely in love."
A Sky documentary about the Queen of Pop, 66, titled Becoming Madonna began conversation around her love life as video producer Sharon Oreck shared his two cents on her life.
“She was genuinely in love with him," he said of Madonna's first husband, who she married on her 27th birthday—also the day before Penn's 25th birthday,
"But it felt as if the attraction between the two of them was fueled by the public. He was the budding movie star, she was the budding rock star and the public demanded that they come together.”
Looking back, Oreck, 69, said “It was like a bomb went off" when the pair started dating in February 1985 after meeting on the set of the Material Girl music video. “America’s bad boy and America's bad girl.” The then-IT couple had married just six months after they first met.
Just over two years later, in December 1987, Madonna filed for divorce.
Madonna withdrew her divorce filing within less than two weeks but refiled again in January 1989, the Los Angeles Times reported.
However, the pair have remained on good terms, and in 2016, Madonna said she was "still in love" with Penn and even offered to remarry him if he bid $150,000 in a charity auction.
Becoming Madonna is now streaming on Sky Documentaries.
