The second season of Squid Game, Netflix’s megahit series, was released worldwide on December 26.
By December 27, it made its way to the number one ranking in 92 countries.
Jo Yuri, Korean singer and actress, plays one of the leads in season two, a young pregnant woman trying to create a comfortable life for her and her baby.
Appearing on a YouTube series, she gave viewers insight into how she managed to score a role on the hit show.
“Well, I participated in the auditions for the show. My company told me an audition opportunity had come through. I was in Busan the day before, and my mom asked why I was here and if I was just leaving again. But when I told my mom I would audition for ‘Squid Game,’ she told me to hurry and go,” Jo Yuri explained.
She went on to express her uncertainty about her performance, “I safely made it through the first audition and I got a call back for the second audition. I wasn’t sure how it went because although I gave it my all, I felt like I might have not made it.”
Fortunately, she soon received the news that she had made it through all the rounds, “But a few days later, I got the call saying I passed the second audition, and immediately called for the third audition. And I did a final fourth audition as well."
She continued, "My director usually doesn’t call me during work hours, but my phone kept ringing, so I picked up and they told me that I got the role.”
When asked about the type of roles Jo Yuri would prefer to do in the future, she stated that she would like to try the action genre, playing a character who is unpredictable.
