Not having a driver’s license could not stop Paul Mescal from landing his role in Normal People.

In a recent chat with W Magazine, the 28-year-old actor confessed that he told a lie about his driving skills just to secure his starring as Conner in the 2020 Hulu hit series.

“I said I could drive for Normal People, and I could not drive,” he told the outlet.

The Aftersun actor went on to say, “We'd signed the paperwork, I'd gotten the part, and then I'd forgotten about doing my driver's license."

In order to film his role Mescal only got permission to drive on the set, "So I ended up doing Normal People on a provisional license,” he revealed.

“I could only drive the car if there was a fully licensed driver beside me,” the Irish star added.

Mescal jokingly said that he does “all my own stunts,” he giggled, “I did the best driving—and we have this on record—that anybody's ever done on-screen in Normal People.”
