Vanessa Williams, currently starring as Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada, will step away from the show following the death of her mother, Helen Louise Williams.

The production announced on Thursday that the 61-year-old actress will be absent from January 8 to January 15, with English actress Debbie Kurup stepping in to play the iconic role during her leave.

According to Daily Mail, Williams is scheduled to return to the stage on January 16.

Moreover, Helen Louise Williams, a retired teacher and college professor, passed away at the age of 85 on December 28 due to complications from acute liver failure.

Additionally, she had traveled to London to see Vanessa perform and celebrate her milestone birthday with family and friends.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vanessa paid tribute to her mother, describing her as a “powerhouse” and a “loyal friend.”

Meanwhile, she reflected on Helen’s dedication to education and her role as a devoted grandmother, sharing her inspirational motto, "Work the best you can and don't let anyone tell you that you cannot do something."

Furthermore, the family plans to hold private memorial services in January and has requested donations be made to the Helen Tinch Williams Vocal Performance Fund in her honor.

Williams, an Emmy and Tony nominee, has been lauded for her portrayal of Miranda Priestly, a role inspired by Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel and the 2006 film starring Meryl Streep.
