Blackpink's Lisa catches heat for her ‘regressive' vocals

South-Korean singer and rapper Lisa has been receiving negative responses from fans for the performances of her solo music.

Within the girl group Blackpink, Lisa holds the position of the main dancer, lead rapper and sub-vocalist. Before she began her solo career, this meant that her performances focused more on dancing than vocalization.

Now with her solo career taking off, listeners are criticizing the quality of her vocals during her performances, with one user writing, “She was never an outstanding singer, it’s easier to hide that when there are 3 others on the stage… She usually just shouts some parts to hype up the crowd and that’s it, expecting more from her its kinda silly, cause there’s no foundation in there to improve.”

Another user added, “I don't think she's regressing, is just that she has never been an outstanding singer and now that she's working solo people has started to notice.”

Her performance at the VMAs caused further backlash as a user wrote on X, “I didn’t know Lisa from blackpink went solo but that performance was awful. Songs were bad, all the wide shots can’t disguise that she isn’t bothering to move her mouth to lip sync half the song #VMAs.”

Some listeners claimed that Lisa is struggling to perform well since her music does not suit her vocal talents and range. Others stated that she has yet to find the “killer song” that will elevate her solo career.

Besides her music, Lisa has also made her acting debut on the HBO series The White Lotus.
