Jisoo from the K-pop group Blackpink is facing criticism for her performance in the trailer of her upcoming show, Newtopia.
Making the gradual shift from being a vocalist to acting, she plays the role of Yeong Ju, a young woman who is trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse while trying to get to her boyfriend.
Despite her global fame as an artist, early reactions to the trailer have not been positive.
“Reminds me of Cha Eunwoo’s acting. If the show’s entertaining, though, people will still watch it while complaining,” observed one user on TheQoo.
The series follows Jae Yun, a soldier who has just been broken up with by his girlfriend. Starting off as meek and timid, the character goes through major development and grows into a strong leader.
After the release of the trailer, it soon began to trend on several platforms, gaining thousands of views. Viewers took issue with Jisoo, pointing out flaws with her vocal tone as well as her pronunciation.
“Why does Jisoo keep trying to act? She’s seriously so bad at it. Her voice and delivery aren’t suited for acting at all,” commented a user while another added, “Her voice is not suited for acting. It’s seriously bad.”
Newtopia is set to be released 7 February, with a new episode being aired every Friday.
