QUETTA: At least four people were killed and 37 sustained injuries after four successive blasts rocked the provincial capital within a short span of time on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
As per initial reports, the first blast was reported from Gwalmandi area, the second explosion ripped through Jinnah Town, while the third one hit Gordat Singh area, which has long history of sectarian and ethnic violence. The police said that five people were injured in Gwalmandi.
A in the fourth and most deadly attack a suicide bomber blew up his car at a check point in Nechari Colony area near Hazara Town.
The attacker had attempted to drive his vehicle into Hazara Town, where a recent surge in sectarian unrest has killed scores, city police chief Zubair Mahmood said.
"He detonated the vehicle when the soldiers at a paramilitary check post near the Shiite neighbourhood stopped it," the police officer added.
The blast left four people dead including a soldier, senior administration official Abdul Mansoor said.
"We have collected details from different hospitals and the death toll is 4," he said, adding that 37 others, including two soldiers, were wounded.
"The bomber was heading to the Shiite Hazara community's area. It was a huge blast heard several kilometres away," he said, adding that several shops were damaged in the bombing.
The Nechari area has plunged into darkness since the blast as it left many power lines broken-down.
