Sam Moore, an R&B icon, famed for his musical contributions in the duo, Sam & Dave, passed away on January 10.

At the age of 89, the artist passed away after a surgery that was performed in Coral Gables, as per his wife and longtime manager, Joyce Moore, who confirmed the news to The New York Times.

Details of as to why Moore underwent surgery and what complications occurred that led to his demise have been kept under wraps, however, with his demise both the original members of the group Sam & Dave, have now died, with his partner Dave Prater having passed away back in 1988.

The two of them started their career in the late 1950s and by 1961 began working together as a group with Atlantic Records offering them a contract in 1964 after watching the two perform.

Sam & Dave then released a string of hits that included Hold On, I’m Comin,’ I Thank You and Soul Man.

The latter track was a chart-topper and even hit the second spot on the pop charts in 1967 and also scored a Grammy in the category of best rhythm & blues group performance, vocal or instrumental.

After their first split in 1970, the pair had multiple break ups and reunions after their solo careers would not perform as well as their time together.

In 1992, Moore and Prater were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and after six years, one half of the iconic duo passed away in a fatal car accident.

However, it did not stop the iconic Sam & Dave duo form scoring accolades as in 2019 they received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.
