Simon Cowell expressed his heartfelt support for people of Los Angeles on Saturday as catastrophic wildfires continue to wreak havoc across the region.
The fires have claimed 16 lives, scorched over 37,000 acres, and destroyed 12,000 structures, prompting widespread evacuations and strict water-saving measures.
In a video message shared on Instagram, the 65-year-old talent show mogul, spoke about his connection to the city and urged others to help.
Cowell began at length by admitting, "Los Angeles has been my second home for the past 25 years. I am devastated by what I’ve seen and read. It's horrific. Like a lot of other people, I want to do something to help. I’ve done some research, and it looks like the Red Cross is doing an awful lot. I’ve attached the link, and I’m making a donation. I strongly encourage others to do the same because so many people need help now and in the future."
Moreover, Cowell concluded his message by sending "love, prayers, and support" to those affected.
According to Daily Mail, currently, an estimated 153,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders, with approximately 57,000 structures at risk.
Additionally, authorities reported that at least 13 people remain missing as the Palisades Fire, the largest of six blazes burning, continues to advance.
As per the publication, high-profile areas, including Brentwood and Encino, home to celebrities such as LeBron James, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Kamala Harris, are among the hardest hit.
In this regard, James tweeted, "I pray this nightmare ends soon! So many prayers," while evacuating his Brentwood home.
Furthermore, the fires have also sparked controversy over water usage and private firefighting services.
Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Sylvester Stallone faced criticism for exceeding water restrictions, with some hiring private firefighters to protect their properties.
