'TOWIE' star reveals heartbreaking childhood trauma

Pete Wicks, an English television personality who appeared on The Only Way Is Essex from September to December 2024, recently opened up about his childhood trauma.

The 37-year-old star illuminated Paul C. Brunson’s podcast, We Need to Talk, with his presence and got very emotional while shedding light on his mom, Tracy's attempt to commit suicide when he was 12 years old.

Discussing the effects of his mother’s suicide attempt on him, Pete articulated, “They [his parents] were together since kids but she found it very very tough [when they divorced] and my mum struggled with depression and alcoholism and it got too much for her. She tried to take her own life one night and I found her. That was tough.”

The Strictly Come Dancing alum went on to admit that “I felt like I was responsible, I didn't feel like enough. I didn't feel like me being there was enough for her to want to be there and I did feel responsible the circumstances around how it happened, I could have stopped it.”

“I knew, despite being that young, that she was drinking and not in a good place, she was very upset the night that it happened,” Pete added.

Expanding on this, the All Stars Dancing Off star revealed that Tracy shared with him that she would be fine but he was hearing her crying despite being in his room, and he emphasised, “If I hadn't of stayed [in my room], then maybe I could have stopped it. It was a tough time.”

“I never felt unloved but I just never felt that I was enough. It's not that I didn't feel loved by my mum or dad I just felt like I was in the way. They had their own struggles at the time and I felt like an afterthought,” Pete Wicks concluded.
