Jimmy Kimmel fights back tears amid LA fires

In Jimmy Kimmel Live! opening, the host gives a monologue, usually making the viewers chuckle.

But in the latest appearance, Jimmy's speech was emotional as the wildfires raged in Los Angeles.

"As you know it has been a very scary, very stressful, very strange week here in L.A. where we work, where we live, where our kids go to school," the late-night host said as he fought back tears.

"Many of us had to leave our homes in a hurry, some of us lost our homes," he said as he broadcasted his show from Hollywood.

The 57-year-old also shared the impact of the fires, saying, "It's been terrible. Everyone who lives in this city knows someone—most of us multiple people—families, friends, colleagues, neighbours whose house burned down."

"And the truth is we don't even know if it's over. We had 100 mph winds fuelling this nightmare. As of tonight, the winds are back. I think I speak for all of us when I say it has been a sickening, shocking, awful experience."

"But it has also been, in a lot of ways, a beautiful experience because once again, we see our fellow men and women coming together to support each other," he concluded.
