Keke Palmer opens up about 'toxic dynamic' that defined relationship with ex Darius Jackson

Keke Palmer reflected on her "toxic dynamic" with ex-Darius Jackson.

The 31-year-old musician appeared in a recent cover story on The Cut published on Tuesday, January 14, and opened up about the breakdown of her relationship with Jackson after he made comments on a dress she wore to an Usher concert.

For those unversed, Palmer requested a domestic violence restraining order against Jackson on November 2023, alleging that her ex broke into her house and physically attacked her as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Later in October 2024, the actress shared with People that she had to file the restraining order as the situation "got so out of control."

Recalling her relationship with Jackson in her recent interview, the singer-actress discussed being the face for survivors of domestic violence.

“There’s a sensationalization that happens with that word,” she told the Cut. “But there really are often no other words to describe such a toxic dynamic.”

As per Palmer her nature as a people pleaser led her to make excuses for Jackson's behavior over the years.

“You can say, ‘I know you’re not like that,’ or ‘I know it’s not like this,’ or ‘I know you’re a good person deep down,’” said Palmer. “You can make so many excuses for behavior that could have stopped.”

Palmer confessed that the birth of her son Leo, was the turning point that forced her to part ways “before it had the chance of becoming something that I had to survive.”
