Jessica Simpson's separation from Eric Johnson is being deemed as a much-needed move.
"Their marital issues have felt suffocating for a while," a source said in response to the actress-singer's recent announcement of her separation from the retired NFL player.
"She needs to move on for her own well-being," the source added in the statement shared with People Magazine.
On Monday, Simpson, 44, broke her silence on her rocky marriage, stating that the pair "have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage."
"Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family," the publication further quoted the mother-of-three.
Earlier this week, another insider spilled to the outlet that they had been "separated for a while" but "Jess is doing OK."
On the work front, Simpson is also said to be working on her musical comeback and "excited about her new album."
However, the source added of the singer that "separating is not anything she's taken lightly."
The estranged couple tied the knot in 2014 and share daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
"They have already figured out a new schedule for the kids," per another source as the outlet added Simpson and Johnson are "both great parents."
"The kids will always come first. They are co-parenting," they continued. "She's grateful for her kids."
