Chris Martin just put past differences aside!

As the 47-year-old Coldplay frontman took the stage in India, Mumbai to perform as a part of his Music of Spheres World Tour, he has left fans grouping into two after he thanked the South Asian country for “forgiving” British colonialism.

During the band’s gig over the weekend, where the iconic rock band performed for 75,000 people at the DY Patil Stadium.

“Thank you for coming,” Martin told his spectators, as per a video on social media, adding, “It’s amazing to us that you welcome us even though we are from Great Britain.”

The Fix You crooner continued, “Thank you for forgiving us for all of the bad things Great Britain has done and welcoming us into your home.”

“This is our fourth visit to India, and the second time to play. First time we played a long show and we could not have asked for a better audience. Thank you for coming today everybody!” he added.

His remarks have sparked multiple reactions from fans online, with them mainly dividing into two groups where some fans called out the “unnecessary stunt,” while others praised his open-minded comment.

“Chris Martin is an amazing guy, he has a beautiful aura and this is how you turn a page from the colonial past… by acknowledging the history between two countries and treating them as equals,” one user wrote on social media.

It is pertinent to mention that Coldplay have three performances in Mumbai, India, as a part of their Music of Spheres World Tour, for January 19, 20 and 21.
