Vanessa Ray opens up about awkward ‘Suits' audition

Vanessa Ray, an American actress, came on for an episode of SiriusXM's Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast where she opened up about her past experiences with auditioning.

She portrayed the character of Jenny Griffith on Suits, but her audition for the part was not the most ideal.

“I remember this audition as clearly as anything because it was the first time that I thought, ‘I'm going to just be a cool girl who doesn't wear a lot of makeup.’ And it's a hot day in New York City and the description was like, ‘girl.’ It wasn't like, ‘girl who does anything,’” she explained.

On the show, Griffith was in a relationship with Trevor Evans and she was also a close friend of Mike Ross.

“I was like, 'I'm a cool girl in New York City and I'm going to come in without makeup and I'm going to wear shorts,'” she added, “I wore shorts, I didn't care! I walked into that audition and all the girls were wearing suits for real.”

The actress further revealed, “Well this is why I remember it. I got a callback and the callback notes were, ‘Can she come in again but just look, like, TV pretty?’”

“I was like, ‘Okay, I get it, I'm not cool,’” she concluded.
