David Beckham gave a powerful speech on girls' rights at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Monday.

The former footballer, who has been working as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF for the past two decades, took the stage at the event while he was honored with the prestigious award.

David used the platform to speak about girls' rights, who are being "held back" from gaining their whole potential.

The father of four shared that he will provide the same opportunity to his daughter Harper Beckham as her brothers, including Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, whom he shares with his wife Victoria Beckham.

"I’ve always believed in the potential of children, and that when children are given time, opportunity and encouragement they will reach their full potential," David began, "Growing up, I benefited from that support from family, from coaches and from teachers."

"Girls are held back by poverty, girls are held back by violence, girls are held back by discrimination," he explained, adding, "[Girls] need opportunities. They need collective action and they need investment".

It came after David marked his 20 years as a UNICEF Ambassador in a heartfelt post, reflecting his past years of charity work with the organization and his own welfare foundation 7: The David Beckham Unicef Fund, founded in 2015.
