Star Wars could have new lead, as Ryan Gosling’s intentions to star in the Shawn levy’s directed movie, surfaces.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the Barbie heartthrob’s potential to star in the untitled Star Wars movie directed by the Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.
The movie has been in the works for 2 years, with Levy, 56, writing alongside Jonathan Tropper, who linked up with the project in July 2024.
The two have previously partnered on other hits like The Adams Project and This Is Where I Leave You.
While the details of what the movie will be about is still ambiguous, the outlet confirms it will be a standalone movie, set to be produced under Levy’s 21 Laps banner, together with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
The latest of the saga was 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and will be followed by The Mandalorian and Grogu, a May 22, 2026 release.
If Gosling does sign on, the project could take priority in Levy’s schedule, since he initially planned on reuniting with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman for a boy band movie.
Gosling latest big screen appearance was in The Fall Guy. He also holds several Oscar nominations for his previous performances in Half Nelson, La La Land and Barbie. His upcoming film is a project with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Hail Mary, which opens in theaters on March 2026.
