Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh fought off tears as she recalled emotional details about her kids, Lady Louise Windsor, James, Earl of Wessex.
Prince Edward’s wife stopped midway while sharing emotional family story while visiting L'Arche, a learning disability support community in London.
While speaking with residents and staff, Sophie described as "incredibly moving" the moment her children stood vigil around Queen Elizabeth's coffin alongside their cousins, Princes William and Prince Harry, during her funeral in 2022.
She said it was she felt "so proud” of Louise and James and "all of the cousins" as they followed the Firm’s instructions at the late monarch’s funeral.
"I suppose there was a part of me initially that thought, 'Would it be appropriate for James, perhaps, to do it?' because he was younger than the others, but he was really keen to do it,” she added, per The Telegraph.
"And I think it was really important for him to do it, and obviously for Louise as well. But they did it so well, each and every one of them. I was slightly holding my breath, wanting them to feel that they’d done it well more than anything else.
"I wasn’t worried about anything happening; it was more that I wanted them to feel that they’d done their bit for their grandmother. It was incredibly moving and lovely to see her surrounded by them."
The publication revealed that Sophie could not continue with the story as she placed “her hand on her heart and seeming to blink to stop tears falling.”
"I don’t think I can talk about it anymore,” the Duchess of Edinburgh said.
