Conan o Brien talked about how he’s managing the loss of both his parents just 3 days apart, a month after he was announced the host for the 97th annual Academy Awards.

Talking with PEOPLE at the premiere of If I Had Legs Id Kick You, O’Brien said how “trivial” Oscars and the premiere feel at this time but is important, he continues “We keep going. We keep making stuff.”

The 61 year old comedian, said that he’s been coping with things one day at a time “It's been a time where I just take it a day at a time."

As per the Bell-O’Dea Funeral Home, the actor's father, Dr. Thomas O’Brien, 95, died on December 9, after “his health had been failing,” and his mother, Ruth Reardon O’Brien, 92, died "peacefully" on December 12.

The comedian, also had a close call with his LA home amidst the Pacific Palisades fires that began on January 7.

O’Brien said "It has been a lot happening in a very short time, and there's a lot that happened in my personal life starting in December that was intense, and then going into this month with the fires and prep for what's coming up.

The 97th Oscars is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 2025.
