Chappell Roan just opened up about the inspiration behind her unique makeup look.
In the year 2024, the HOT TO GO singer has seen a major urge in popularity within a very short time period, particularly after the release of her LGBTQIA+ community anthem, Good Luck, Babe!
Apart from her unapologetically open and queer-themed music as well as bold behaviour, Roan has also established her own sense of fashion with stunning outfits and a signature makeup look.
During her appearance on Hulu’s Face Of Music series, she explained how she ties her face being painted white to her queer identity.
“The white face is very important. There’s a reason why I do the white face. I grew up in a place where there wasn’t a lot of gay people that were out and proud and safe,” Roan explained.
The Red Wine Supernova hitmaker continued, “There were a few people – mostly boys in my high school – that would call gay people clowns. They would be like, ‘Oh, they are so loud, and they dress up obnoxiously, and they just have to be the center of attention; they’re like clowns.'”
However, Chappell Roan further mentioned that not only accepted but embraced the label of being a clown so that her classmates would not get the best of her.
“So, I started doing white makeup because I was like, ‘If you’re going to call me a clown, then I’m going to be the best clown you’ve ever seen, and it’s going to be undeniable that I’m gay, and there’s nothing wrong with that. And you know what? No one calls me a clown anymore,” she further mentioned on the series.
