Chevy Chase, an American actor and comedian, sat down for an interview with The New Yorker where he revealed what would have kept him from quitting Saturday Night Live.

Being remembered as one of the original breakthrough members from the first season back in 1975, he ended up winning two Emmy Awards in 1976.

However, viewers were taken aback when he chose to leave the show quite early on in the second season.

When the creator of the series, Lorne Michaels was interviewed previously for Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live, he admitted that he had no plans of convincing Chase to stay.

According to him, his opinion had been that, "The show would take a hit, but we’d still be okay."

For Chase, however, one word from the creator would have changed his mind, It "It wouldn’t have f****** taken much! All he had to do is tell me he loved me, basically. But his nature is to be above it in some fashion.”

Attributing it to his hesitancy to show gratitude, he added, "Frankly, I always felt back then that I was smarter than him, that I was really the guy who got the show going, not Lorne.”

Regardless, the comedian went on to find success after SNL through projects such as National Lampoon’s Vacation, Caddyshack, Community and more.
