At least two soldiers, including a captain, were killed and one suffered critical injuries in an “improvised explosive device (IED) explosion” in the Akhnoor sector of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOK), it emerged on Tuesday.

The incident took place at 3:30pm (local time) when the army personnel were patrolling near the restive Line of Control (LOC) in IIOK, Indian media reported quoting the army.

All three soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition where two of them, including the captain, succumbed to their injuries.

White Knight Corps unit of the Indian Army took to X to confirm the incident, saying: “Suspected IED blast reported in #Laleali in #Akhnoor Sector during a fence patrol resulting in two fatalities".

"Own troops are dominating the area and search #operations are underway."

Following the blast, the Indian army launched a massive search operation along the LOC.
