Around 100 illegal warehouses, shops, and under-construction buildings were demolished on Monday in an anti-encroachment operation in Machhar Colony, Keamari.
The drive led to the recovery of approximately 20 acres of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) land, valued at Rs14.81 billion, from illegal occupation, The News reported.
The operation was carried out as part of the implementation of the prime minister’s Maritime Task Force agenda points. It was led by an assistant commissioner. The 33 Wing Pakistan Rangers Sindh provided security to the anti-encroachment team comprising KPT anti-encroachment staff, port intelligence, mechanical & electrical engineering chief, KPT Port Security Force and public relations officials.
The KPT has so far conducted nine operations to recover two acres in Docks Colony (Badar Colony), four acres in Younusabad, one acre of parking area, one acre occupied by soft encroachments, 0.085 acres of the Keamari Market area, eight acres in Hijrat Colony, eight acres in Sikandarabad, 4.8 acres in Jungle Shah and 20 acres in Machhar Colony.
The total land recovered has been estimated at Rs36.193 billion.
The KPT has stated that under directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s task force and with the support of the Sindh government and the law enforcement agencies, it will continue anti-encroachment operations to recover its illegally occupied land from the possession of land grabbers.
