Google Wallet has officially launched in Pakistan, providing users with a digital platform to store payment cards, boarding passes, and loyalty cards on their Android devices.
The tech giant's service aims to streamline transactions and enhance convenience for consumers.
In a statement, Google said that customers of several banks can now link their debit and credit cards to Google Wallet, allowing them to make contactless payments using Android phones and Wear OS devices.
More banks are expected to be integrated in the coming months. The service will enable users to pay at contactless terminals, make online purchases, and conduct in-app transactions where Google Pay is accepted.
Beyond payments, the app also supports digital storage for travel and retail services. Passengers can save boarding passes from select airlines, while users booking tickets through online platforms can store their reservations within Google Wallet.
Additionally, loyalty programme members can digitally access their reward cards, making it easier to manage benefits.
Security remains a key focus, with Google Wallet employing tokenisation to protect financial data.
Each transaction uses a device-specific alternate card number and a dynamic security code. Users are also required to verify their identity before adding a card, and all stored data is secured through screen lock protection.
In case of a lost or stolen device, the Find My Device feature allows users to lock or erase their information.
