Govt to put an end to politics of strikes: Pervaiz Rashid

KARACHI: Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said on Friday politics of strikes would be eliminated in Pakistan, in a reference to Muttahida Qaumi Movement's call for a day of mourning against what it said 'extra-judicial killing' of its workers.

Speaking to the media, Senator Rashid said nobody has the right to make people shut their shops against their will.

He said the law enforcement agencies were playing their role in establishing peace in Karachi.

The MQM has announced a country-wide ‘day of mourning’ on Saturday to denounce what it terms ‘extra-judicial killing’ of its workers by the law enforcement agencies.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said the Rabita (coordination) Committee has decided to observe a day of mourning across the country against what he called discriminatory operation of Rangers and police in the port city.

A protest march from Liaquatabad to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam would also be staged on Sunday, he added.
