ISLAMABAD: Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi has put forward a proposal in front of the government to depute judges to exclusively decide blasphemy cases in the shortest possible time, The News reported.

The CII chairman, while addressing a conference in connection with the “Day Against Islamophobia”, mentioned that the council on different occasions had given recommendations regarding blasphemy cases which should be implemented.

To take immediate action against those who commit blasphemy on social media and websites, he also suggested to the government to establish a counter blasphemy department on the pattern of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Dr Naeemi said the purpose behind observing the Day Against Islamophobia is to remove misunderstandings about Islam and Muslims, raise voice against discriminatory attitude against Muslims and promote interfaith harmony.

Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf said the CII was the biggest and right forum for the cause of Namoos-e-Risalat (SAW).

He said it was high time to prevent misuse of blasphemy law and that punishment to those who commit intentional blasphemy be given after fulfilling all requirements of law and justice.
