ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday declared the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, Fasih Bokhari illegal and directed the federal government to appoint a new chief.
A five member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani heard the constitutional petition filed by Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan challenging the appointment of Bokhari as NAB chairman. Chaudhry Nisar in his petition stated that he as the opposition leader was not consulted during the appointment process.
In its written order the court ruled that not consulting the opposition leader under section 6 of the NAB ordinance over the appointment was a violation of the constitution.
Following the Supreme Court decision, Bokhari met with officers and other staff at the NAB headquarters. Bokhari said that he accepted the decision but was hoping for a different outcome.
