Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that the party president, Nawaz Sharif, is well-positioned to spearhead dialogues aimed at forging unity against terrorism in the country, The News reported on Tuesday.
Speaking to a private news channel, the former federal minister also proposed including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman or a nominee from his party in the federal cabinet.
Dastgir said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had returned from a Saudi visit and it was also the last week of Ramazan but strategies were being devised to drive maximum consensus of political forces over the war against terror.
He said the mode of consultations, whether through another parliamentary huddle or a parliamentary debate or a debate by a provincial assembly, was presently under consideration and a decision would be reached within a few days.
"The attack on Jaffar Express, hostage-taking and murder of Pakistani nationals are no longer actions by some disgruntled elements and have escalated insurgency to terrorism. In this context, no one is better placed than PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to lead such a dialogue," the politician said.
This proposal is also under consideration, he added.
Regarding the expected opposition campaign after Eid and the possible role of JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, Dastgir praised Fazl’s clear, categorial stance against terrorism in the backdrop of the Akora Khattak incident.
He said the JUI-F chief had cordial relations with the top PML-N leadership and he was personally of the view that the seasoned politician must be included in the federal cabinet and his issues and reservations must be addressed.
"Even if this means the federal government to play its due role in creating political space for the PML-F chief at the provincial level," Dastgir concluded.
