PTI’s Asad Qaiser elected KP Assembly Speaker unopposed

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidates Asad Qaisar and Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi have been elected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly's Speaker and Deputy Speaker unopposed, Geo News reported.

The consensus to elect them unopposed was hammered out after talks between the political parties.

Jamiat Ulema-I-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate Munawar Khan had also filed nomination papers for speaker.

Earlier, former speaker Kiramatullah Khan said that efforts were underway to elect all the candidates unopposed.

He had invited parliamentary leaders of the political parties to his chamber to evolve consensus.

Asad Qaiser has become 17th speaker of the provincial legislature after Kiramatullah Khan administered oath to him. Later on, Qaiser administered oath to Deputy Speaker Shahid Imtiaz Qureshi.
