WhatsApp is bringing out a new feature to notify users when they change their usernames.
The socialising app is exploring the implementation of a feature which will automatically notify users directly within their chats whenever any of their contacts update their names on WhatsApp.
Whenever the contact deletes, modifies their username, an auto message will appear in the conversation to inform participants of the change.
Moreover, like many previous WhatsApp updates, these username change notifications do not appear to be optional, meaning it automatically applies to all users. They do not get the liberty to choose to hide whenever they make a change to their username.
This seems like a deliberate move on WhatsApp's part. It is evident that they want everyone to remain informed, regardless of their notification settings.
It also keeps contacts in the loop and may give them a hint if one of their contacts' username changes to something they have never or would never opt for, indicating that the device may have been compromised.
The feature to notify users when their contacts change their usernames is under development, and it will be available in a future update of the app.
