Social media giant Meta on Tuesday announced the launching of its first standalone artificial intelligence (AI) assistant application aimed at further improving the user experience — a move also set to take on rival AI platforms such as ChatGPT and others.

Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg took to social media and shared a post on his Instagram account saying that the AI application could be accessed via voice conversations with the interactions personalised to the individual user.

With the ever-evolving and dynamic field of AI bringing various changes to how we use technology in our daily lives, let's dive in and take a look at what Meta AI assistant entails and brings to the table.

Key features

The Meta AI assistant features a "discover feed" which serves essentially as a place for users to share and explore how others are using AI. It is connected to the web at meta.ai — and therefore allows the users to pick up where they left off from anywhere they are.

The users can not only see the best prompts people are sharing, or remix them to make them their own but also leave them in control i.e., nothing is shared to the users' feed unless they choose to post it.

It uses Llama 4 to assist in problem-solving, navigate through daily questions and understand the world better.

"With the ability to search across the web, it can help you get recommendations, deep dive on a topic, and stay connected with your friends and family. Or if you’re just looking to play around with it, it provides conversation starters to inspire your searches," said the company.

Furthermore, like all other Meta platforms, Meta AI has been designed to connect its users with the people and things they care about.

And since Meta AI is available on all Meta products and all the devices it runs on, it is accessible whether one is catching up with family on Facebook, chatting with friends on WhatsApp or Messenger, or scrolling Instagram.

Additionally, Meta AI on the web is also getting an upgrade and now comes with new "discover feed" — similar to the one on the application.

This continuity across the Meta AI app and the web helps deliver a more personal AI that can be there wherever you need it.

Also, it is worth noting that the web interface has been optimised for larger screens and desktop workflows and includes an improved image generation experience, with more presets and new options for modifying style, mood, lighting and colours.
