Independent MPA Imran Mohmand among 28 killed in Mardan suicide attack
PESHAWAR: Twenty-eight people were killed, including an independent MPA, Imran Mohmand, while 57 others sustained wounds when a blast ripped through a funeral procession of a local petrol station owner in the Shergarh area of Mardan.

Imran Mohmand was elected as an independent candidate to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from PK-27.

According to police the suicide atatck took place during the funeral procession of Haji Abdullah. Abdullah a well known figure in the area was killed by unknown gunmen on Monday.

"The bomber came on foot and blew himself up near Imran Khan Mohmand, who seems to have been the target," local police chief Tahir Ayub told AFP.

Provincial Information Minister,Shaukat Yousafzai said that there were threats against Imran Mohmand and two policemen had been deployed for his security. Yousafzai while speaking to Geo News said that a change in foreign policy was essential to dealing with the menace of terrorism.

The injured were shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for treatment.
