KARACHI: Traffic came to a standstill on roads in the city’s business district due to rally taken out by residents of Lyrai against the killing of Saqib Boxer.

The participants chanting slogans were not deterred by police blockades in the red zone areas of the city and made their way to the Rangers Headquarters. Following talks with Deputy Commissioner, the sit-in outside the Rangers HQ was ended. The protestors also handed over a memorandum of their demands to the Deputy Commissioner.

Saqib Boxer, who was allegedly involved in gangsters' activities in Karachi’s troubled Lyari neighbourhood, was killed by Rangers on June 28. The Rangers alleged that Saqib was wanted for his involvement in gang related crimes and the murder of three people in the Kharadar area.

The Karachi president of the Pakistan People's Party, Abdul Qadir Patel called the killing of Saqib Boxer as an extra-judicial killing and demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice.
