LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Tuesday took notice of news published in a section of the press that a suspect died of alleged torture by Shahdara police.
The District & Sessions Judge, Lahore has been directed to probe the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the local police along with his own comments.
According to the report, Sub Inspector Muhammad Afzal Virk arrested Siraj, 30, in a theft and dacoity case. Siraj became unconscious after police torture during interrogation and he was shifted to hospital where the doctors pronounced him death.
The family of Siraj staged a protest in front of hospital and demanded registration of a case against police officials.
After the postmortem report, Sub Inspector Afzal Virk and constables Ali Raza, Nasir Javed and Iftikhar were suspended and a case was registered against them but they are still at large.
The LHC Complaint Cell took serious notice of the police officials and directed the D&SJ to look into the matter and submit a report within a week. (APP)
